Dr. Julie MacInnes is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Health Services Studies (CHSS), University of Kent. Julie is an experienced clinician (nurse), academic and researcher whose main area of expertise is in integrated health and social care for frail, older people living at home.

Julie was the Kent lead for the DHSC funded national evaluation of the New Care Models, or Vanguard  integrated care programme in the UK. Previously, she was a member of the consortium for the Horizon 2020 funded project SUSTAIN (sustainable, tailored integrated care for older people in Europe) and was the expert consultant for the European Social Network (ESN) working group on integrated care of older people in Europe. Julie also led a project evaluating the impact of hospital discharge policy for people with complex health and social care needs.

Currently Julie is a member of the ALLIANCE consortium which aims to improve end of life services for frail, older people. As well as integrated health and social care, Julie leads projects evaluating the impact of the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector. This includes the NIHR ARC KSS funded project CAVEAT, which involves the development and testing of a toolkit for the evaluation of voluntary sector services for older people. She was also the project manager for a study examining the impact of volunteers in supporting older people self-isolating at home during the COVID-19 pandemic (the COV-VOL project).

Julie is a Trustee of Age UK, Canterbury. Methodologically, she is skilled in implementation science approaches to service evaluation and mixed methods.
