Cultural Gerontology

Book cover of people on a log flume rideMy work on clothing and dress is part of the wider intellectual movement of Cultural Gerontology. In the article below I explore, with Dr Wendy Martin, the significance of the emergence of this field, where it has come from intellectually and culturally, and what themes characterise it. The article also addresses problems that might be presented by the cultural turn in relation to age studies.

These new themes are explored in the Routledge Handbook of Cultural Gerontology which I have jointly edited with Dr Wendy Martin, published 2015. With over 50 chapters contributed by leading scholars in the field, it will be a position statement for this emerging area.
