Page in the Guardian, printed 18th June 2025. Features an interview with Dr Jones and McAllister, where they discuss why the history of urine incontinence can help to challenge stigma today.

On 18th June 2025, Dr Claire Jones and Dr Kate McAllister contributed to the
Bladder and Bowel 2025 campaign as part of World Continence Week. In a short interview, Dr Jones and Dr McAllister discussed what they’ve learnt about the history of urine incontinence as part of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) project, ‘”Buzzers for Bedwetters”: Incontinence and the Urinary Body in Britain 1870-1970’ at the University of Kent. They also emphasised the value of this history in challenging stigma and in helping people to think differently about taboo topics. The interview was shared online and in print in The Guardian.

Many thanks to the team at Mediaplanet UK & IE for helping us with the development and publication of our interview.
