George Fraser Chrystal [Chrys]

George Chrystal was born in Aberdeen. After war service in the RAF as a pilot-instructor, he attended Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. He later worked for Aberdeen Journals Ltd, and produced sporting cartoons for the Scottish Daily Mail before joining the Daily Mail and, in 1960, the News of the World as political cartoonist, using the signature ‘Chrys’.

Chrys also contributed to Punch, Power News and other magazines and drew regularly for Farmer & Stockbreeder and its successor British Farmer & Stockbreeder from the 1950s to his sudden death in December 1972 in Guildford, Surrey. His work bore considerable similarity to that of Giles.
