{"id":5865,"date":"2022-07-18T11:21:27","date_gmt":"2022-07-18T10:21:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/astrophysics-and-planetary-science\/?p=5865"},"modified":"2022-07-18T13:08:08","modified_gmt":"2022-07-18T12:08:08","slug":"university-research-prize-for-duncan-mifsud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/astrophysics-and-planetary-science\/2022\/07\/18\/university-research-prize-for-duncan-mifsud\/","title":{"rendered":"University Research Prize for Duncan Mifsud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every year the Graduate and Researcher College awards a series of prizes in different categories (e.g., postgraduate researcher, postgraduate teacher, research degree supervisor, etc.) so as to &#8220;recognise the excellence of its postgraduate researcher and the outstanding work carried out by academic and professional service staff in support of postgraduate research and education&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p>To be considered for a prize, postgraduate research students must first be nominated after which an independent committee then reviews each application.  Prizes are awarded based on the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Outputs:<\/strong> e.g., publications, practice, and conference papers.<\/li>\n<li> <strong>Impact:<\/strong> this might include public engagement activities (e.g., talks or exhibitions or engagement with non-higher education institutions such as placements or internships).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Research Rigour and Quality:<\/strong> with evidence of the sustained quality of the research and academic performance of the individual.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Leadership and Academic Citizenship:<\/strong> e.g., helping others, mentoring (formal or informal), community-building activities beyond the student&#8217;s own research project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year Duncan&#8217;s work has been recognised with the Postgraduate Researcher Champion award!!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I&#8217;m quite chuffed to have won it, to be honest, as I know the competition for this prize can be quite fierce.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You can find more information about Duncan&#8217;s research and publications <a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/astrophysics-and-planetary-science\/person\/duncan-mifsud\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and you can find a full list of prizes in the Graduate Research College&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/graduateschoolnews\/2022\/06\/27\/graduate-and-researcher-college-prizes-2022-2\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every year the Graduate and Researcher College awards a series of prizes in different categories (e.g., postgraduate researcher, postgraduate teacher, research degree supervisor, etc.) so as to &#8220;recognise the excellence of its postgraduate researcher and the outstanding work carried out by academic and professional service staff in support of postgraduate research and education&#8221;.
