She/Her
Carys completed an MPhys in Physics with Astrophysics at the University of Kent in 2020. She is working for a PhD at the University under the supervision of Dr Dirk Froebrich. Her thesis working title is “The Evolution of Surface Features of Young Stellar Objects”.
Carys is interested in stellar evolution and young stellar objects. Her research uses amateur data from the HOYS citizen science project to study the variability of young stellar objects. She is working to characterise the surface features, hot and cold spots, on the surface of these objects. The goal of her thesis is to see how these objects evolve over the six years that the HOYS project has been collecting data. The analysis of these features will hopefully broaden the understanding around the evolution of young stellar objects as they accrete material from their circumstellar disk. Carys is also active in outreach as part of the International Astronomical Youth Camp.
