Werner<\/span> from <span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">University of Oxford<\/span> delivered a presentation with the title \u201c<span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Optical Imaging of Human Retinal Function&#8221;<\/span> in Jennison Building LT at 2pm, University of Kent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Abstract<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">This talk will review research at UC Davis to image the human retina at high lateral and axial resolution using adaptive optics (AO) and optical coherence tomography (OCT).\u00a0\u00a0This approach permits critical examination\u00a0\u00a0of clinical OCT images and the attribution of the structures identified in the outer retinal bands of the photoreceptors.\u00a0\u00a0High imaging speed afforded by a Fourier-domain mode locked laser operating at 1.67 MHz and phase-variance processing\u00a0\u00a0made it possible to image the subretinal vasculature (choroidal layers) at high contrast.\u00a0\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">Analysis of serial volumetric images revealed phase changes of cone photoreceptors consistent with outer segment elongation that was proportional to stimulus intensity, as well as other morphological changes in the outer segment and retinal pigment epithelium.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Bio<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>John S.\u00a0<\/b><b>Werner<\/b>\u00a0is currently a Leverhulme Trust\u00a0<span class=\"mark3m4kiojze\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Visit<\/span>ing Professor at the University of Oxford.\u00a0\u00a0He is a Distinguished Professor emeritus at the\u00a0<a title=\"Original URL: https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_California,_Davis.
