Isabel Fong Lim is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Paraclinical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).  Isabel received her Bachelor of Technology (Biotechnology, Hons.) and Master of Science degrees from the University of Auckland (NZ) before joining Genesis Research and Development Limited, Auckland, NZ as a junior researcher for 5 years. She was a member of a research team involved in developing therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and diseases of the immune system. She joined Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in 2005 as a Lecturer in Department of Paraclinical Sciences before undertaking her PhD research with Andreas Gescher and Stewart Sale on the role of Pentamethoxyflavone as chemopreventive agent against colorectal cancer through modulation of gene expression leading to growth inhibition, cell cycle arrest and induction of apoptosis against colorectal cancer in vitro and in vivo. After gaining her PhD., she returned to UNIMAS to teach undergraduate Medical programme, in particular topics of infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance, inflammation and its consequences. In UNIMAS, her research focuses on discovery of phytochemicals as antimicrobial and anti-cancer therapeutics. She also offers her molecular genetics expertise to the field of Cardiology in collaboration with Sarawak Heart Centre, searching for circulating microRNA biomarkers as a prognostic tool to assess tissue healing in patients of anterior myocardial infarction. Her collaboration networks include University of Kent (UK), University of Tripoli, (Libya), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Sarawak), Taylor’s University (Msia), SEGi College (Msia) and Sarawak Biodiversity Centre. She is also an external examiner for Medical Microbiology Module at SEGi College (Sarawak).
